Alone In Atlanta (AIA) - Men Before Kin…

Alone In Atlanta By Brittany Manson(By Brittany Manson) August 28, 2009 – At the moment, we're experiencing a drought of eligible, single, heterosexual, sane men in Atlanta. When desperate times call for desperate measures, women sometimes find themselves just in need of company....anybody's company. That's when they do the unthinkable. They call.....a woman. Believe it or not, its happening all over Atlanta, and to women you would least expect! Because at this point...dinner and a movie with someone is better than dinner and a movie with no one!

A couple of Saturdays back, I reached that point. Unable to find anyone from the opposite sex to share my time with, I called............a woman. I hadn't seen my sister in about a month or so and figured now would be a good time to catch up. She was obviously thinking the same thing because upon contact she was already thinking about what we could for the night. We decided on what to do and made a plan to call closer to the time we were going to meet up. A little while later, she texted me saying that the guy she was currently seeing was stopping by her place before we went out. I said ok and continued to get ready. Not too long after that, she texted again stating that she had not told him of our plans and he wanted to go out to dinner. I said "so what are you saying"? (even though I already knew). She said she hadn't seen him in a while (i.e: a couple of days) and promised to make it up to me. Shaking my head, I told her it was ok, I understood....men before kin right?

Men before Kin: The act of putting a man (whom you're not even in any type of relationship with) before your nearest and dearest friends, your neighbor who has a bullet wound to the head and is bleeding all over your front lawn, and your closest family (i.e: kin folk) in fear of one night away from him will lead him into the arms of another and out of your life forever...ruining yet another chance for happily ever after.

She assured me that that wasn't the case and proceeded to get ready for her new plans for the evening, leaving me back where I initially started, by myself.

What puzzled me more so than the fact that I just got dumped by my own sister was the fact that she wouldn't even know this man she was currently dumping me for if it wasn't for me (having encouraged her to go out with me the night they met)!

Although I am "Alone in Atlanta", I hope one day when I am no longer "Alone", I am able to find that delicate balance between love and life. And most importantly, don't allow myself to put men before kin...
