Alone In Atlanta (AIA) ……with Janelle Monae
Monae opens the party by giving us a few words on what to expect from this album followed by a video message from Sean “Diddy” Combs himself. He does not hold his tongue when singing his praises of the album as well as the talented vocalist who’s signed to Bad Boy in conjunction with The Wondaland Arts Society. As the listening party commences, it becomes evident that Monae stays true to her eclectic roots with her sophomore follow up: ArchAndroid. With every track she gives rock and soul infused tunes that not only stimulate your sense of sound, but your thought process as well. With tracks such as “Cold War”, Monae delivers an attention grabbing intro as well as a powerful message that makes you ponder exactly what are we fighting for? On other tracks, Monae’s sound can be reminiscent of a young Michael Jackson at times, singing songs of innocent love that takes you to a place you may never want to leave. Monae also stays true to the origin of her starting point, Atlanta with tracks like “Tightrope” with a guest appearance by the ATLien himself, Big Boi of Outkast. Other guest appearances on the album include: Deep Cotton, Saul Williams, etc. While the music blares from the Renaissance, Janelle kept her audience captivated not only with her infectious sound but her energetic dance moves as well, making it clear that James Brown is a definite influential force that shapes her entertainment style. The night wraps up with Monae taking the time to answer questions that fans and Media outlets may have about the album and her in general showing that even though this intergalactic individual may claim residence on another planet through her music, she’s still a down to earth girl at heart. ArchAndroid invades the nation on May 18th. Brittany Manson Follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/aloneinatlanta Previous Articles: The Visionary
