Atlanta Hawks’ Damien Wilkins and his NBA friends will hoop it up on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Damien’s Monster Slam Exhibition Game at Clark Atlanta University to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta.

Atlanta Hawks’ Damien Wilkins will bring together an all-star lineup for his Monster Slam Exhibition Game at Clark Atlanta University, located at 223 James P. Brawley Drive, Atlanta, GA on Saturday November 5, 2011 at 3pm.  Rounding out the stellar list of players for the game are recent additions Rudy Gay (Grizzlies), MarShon Brooks (Nets), Travis Leslie (Clippers) and Solomon Jones (Pacers).  All of the proceeds from the pro style exhibition game will support the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta.

As the lockout continues with no deal in sight, Wilkins decided to organize the game to give Atlanta fans a much needed dose of professional basketball.  The level of the players’ commitment to the fans and surrounding community is evident in the overwhelming response to Damien’s invitation.  The players understand the void fans feel as a result of the ongoing dispute and are taking action to fill it through exhibition games.  “You don’t have to wait until the season to see NBA-caliber ball”, said the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Hawks’ columnist, Michael Cunningham.

Keren Charles is the owner of Fashion Envy LLC and a personal style blogger at Two Stylish Kays. She is responsible for coordinating the clothing swap.

AIA:  What is Swapnista?

Keren: Swapnista is Atlanta's premier fashion swap & day party. Swapnista allows women to experience an alternative to thrift store shopping or consignment stores. Ladies bring their once-loved clothing, shoes & accessories to trade in for new-to-you items that others bring. This fun, chic event includes a fashion show, vendor suite & pampering lounge. Plus it supports a local charity!

AIA: What motivated you to start organizing Swapnista events? How long have you been organizing them?

Keren: My very first fashion swap was hosted in 2008 when I launched my personal styling business Fashion Envy. I created Swapnista as an outlet to network with women who share a passion for thrifty fashion. In 2011, I formed a partnership with Dearroka Winfrey of Pretty Girls Rock Dresses, and the concept of the Swapnista Day Party evolved.

AIA: What makes Swapnista unlike any other event?

Keren: Our event also includes a community service component. Unclaimed clothing is donated to local charities that benefit women in need. Goodwill North Georgia, Operation PROM Atlanta and Assistance League of Atlanta

AIA: How often do you organize Swapnista events?

Keren: Swapnista is hosted every season-Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall

AIA: What are your plans for Swapnista in the future?

Keren: In 2012 we are launching Swapnista on the road. We plan to travel to other cities to host Swapnista.

AIA: What advice would you give first time swapnista attendees?

Keren:  (1) Bring items you would be proud to give your best friend. They should be new or gently-used.

(2)  As a participant, do not be afraid to try new fashion style. A fashion swap is a great              opportunity to try a new trend without a huge investment.

(3)  Have fun and know that your item will find a new home with a happy owner.

In addition to the actual swap, attendees were treated to the first “Clash of the Stylists FASHION WARS COMPETITION” in which stylist from the group Fashionable Atlanta Bloggers gave the audience their take on fall fashion while competing for the 1st place coveted clutch award.  Asiah Gregory of Black Pearls blog took home the first place prize while Breck Bennett (Fashion Without Guilt Blog) and Kerrie Cooke (Virtuoustyle Blog) came in a close second and third.

If you still needed to feed your shopping fix, various vendors were present such as My Chocolate Kisses, Peachtree Events, Traci Lynn Fashion Jewelry and The Cupcake Genie offering everything from couture cupcakes, to head turning custom jewelry and all at affordable prices.
