Navy SEALS Push CIAA Athletes To Get Mentally Tough

Five teams of Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association athletes hit the water and scaled walls as part of their training in April at the U.S. Navy SEALs’ Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach, Va.

Chowan University, St. Paul’s College, Bowie State University, St. Augustine’s College and Virginia State University players all got a taste of the rigors of training with the SEALs in a 12-foot-deep, Olympic-size pool and on the Naval Special Warfare Group 2 Confidence Course, a 17-station land obstacle course.

Study Shows Moms are Fueling Youth Sports Success

As youth athletics have become more widespread, competitive and time consuming, moms have elevated their game to support their kids in sports. Seventy percent of moms are raising kids in competitive sports, creating a group of “Sports Moms” nearly 13 million strong, according to the “Gatorade Sports Moms Study,” a poll of 900 moms of middle and high school students.

Serena Williams Hospitalized With Blood Clot

Tennis pro Serena Williams underwent emergency treatment at a hospital in Los Angeles after suffering a blood clot in her lungs, according to reports.

Williams, 29, turned out for Elton John's AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party on Sunday, however her health took a turn for the worse Monday.

"Monday, Serena Williams underwent emergency treatment at Cedars [Medical Center] for a hematoma she suffered as a result of treatment for a more critical situation," a representative for Williams, Nicole Chabot, said.

Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard and David Lee team up with returning ambassadors Kevin Love, Pau Gasol, Rudy Gay, Steve Blake and Coach George Karl to support St. Jude

NBA stars Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard and David Lee are teaming up with other top players around the league for the annual Hoops for St. Jude fundraising campaign benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®. Returning ambassadors Pau Gasol, Rudy Gay, Kevin Love, Steve Blake and veteran coach George Karl complete this season's lineup. St. Jude will also partner with NBA Cares this season for Hoops for St. Jude Week to be held March 4-11, which raises national awareness and funds for the hospital.
