On Saturday, May 20th, Rho Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and The Pearl Foundation, Inc., in partnership with The Home Depot, unveiled a new outdoor classroom to Lockheed Elementary School in Marietta, GA as part of the school’s STEM initiative. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s 1908 Playground Project was launched to ensure children have safe and inviting places to play. Over a four-year period, sorority members will restore and renew 1,908 existing community and school playgrounds. Lockheed Elementary School is the third school to partner with the chapter. In 2015, Rho Zeta Omega Chapter restored a playground for the Motivation, Dedication, and Excellence (M.D.E. School) in Marietta, GA. Last year, the chapter developed an outdoor classroom for Park Street Elementary School in Marietta, GA.
Rho Zeta Omega was one of many chapters that participated in the 1908 Playgrounds Mobilization Day on May 20th. Rho Zeta Omega and The Home Depot will spend numerous hours planting flowers and renewing the school’s playground over the next few weeks as both organizations prepare for the final reveal. Rho Zeta Omega, members of The Home Depot volunteer team, parents, students, staff, and special guests from the local community were invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the restored playground and newly built outdoor classroom. Representatives from Marietta City Schools were present.
Rho Zeta Omega Chapter is a proud Partner in Education of Lockheed Elementary and was proud to unveil this project to the Marietta community.
